About the holy spring and construction of the monastery: In ancient times a blind old man lost his cow in a dingle. For many hours he squeezed through the thickets bushes and listened carefully in case he hears his cow. At some point he heard a quiet chatter. He approached the holy spring, drunk from his the water and washed his eyes. To his own glee he discovered he was able to see again. The old man thought that this is something more people should know about, and those in need to use as cure. Thus he decided to build a monastery - spiritual shelter for people who needed the cure of the holy spring. The people of the surrounding villages united and built a monastery and the place became a center of human faith and hope.

The
Belogradchik Rocks
The Belogradchik Rocks are one of the most famous and most impressive natural phenomena in Bulgaria. They are about 30 km. away from Lom. Because of erosion they made groups of bizarre sandstone and limestone rock formations that are millions of years old. The rocks form a strip, which is 30 km in length and reaches up to 3 km in width. They are located among the western slopes of the Balkan range and are named after the nearby town. The fairylike stone forest of gigantic rock formations tinted in red are randomly scattered among the green hills and reach up to 200 m in height. Looking over deep gorges, hidden in their depths are numerous caves of stalactite and stalagmite formations. Century-old pine trees are perched on top of rocks, which make the scenery breathtaking. Even though they are 200-300 years old, they are very small due to the insufficient moisture and soil. What fascinates the visitor in the first place is the shape of rocks. They resemble castles, palaces, and silhouettes of human beings, birds, plants, and animals. The names of the rocks match their interesting shapes –The Pine Stone, Adam and Eve, the Schoolgirl, the Bear, the Mushrooms, the Madonna, the Horseman, the Monks are just a few worth seeing.

The "Magura" cave
Near the Bulgarian miraculous landmark Belogradchik Rocks is the Magura cave. If you have decided to have a walk in that region of Bulgaria you shouldn’t miss visiting the cave. It’s not more than 30 minutes away from Belogradchik and you shouldn’t fear the narrow curvy roads.
The Magura cave is among the most famous and beautiful caves in Bulgaria. Total length of the Magura cave is 2.5 km.Large quantities of bones from different species such as prehistoric cave bear and cave hyena were found in the Magura cave. On the walls of the cave can be seen cave paintings dating back to the late Paleolithic, Neolithic and early Bronze Age. The paintings represent religious ceremonies, deities and hunting scenes that are unique for the Balkans.
In one of the galleries of the cave is produced special wine, which is very similar to wines from Champagne, France, due to the unique microclimate of the cave, which is common for this region. The largest inland lake in the country, Rabisha Lake, is located in the vicinity of the cave and the whole area is declared a landmark.
