
The theatrical
festival is held annually in the autumn
(September/October). Participation can take any
amateur assemblies and artists (Bulgarian and
foreign), which are laureates on festivals in
Bulgaria and abroad. The festival has a competitive
characteristic. Professional participants can take a
part too but not as competitors.


The
day of Trust, Hope and Love – 17th September
Official holiday of Lom
As Lom’s official holiday the municipal council determined the Christian celebration of the saints Vyara, Nadezda and Lyubov and their mother Sofia, (Trust, Hope and Love, also used as names in Bulgaria), since 21st of July 1993. The tradition is celebrated on 17th September and it starts with a service in the biggest church “Uspenie Bogordichno” for health and happiness for the citizens of Lom. The municipal council has an obligatory meeting where awards such as “Honorable citizen of Lom” and “Krastyo Pishurka” for exceptional merit in different areas are given. Every year around 17th September in Lom is organized the conducting of concerts according to the preferences of the citizens both younger and older generations – hip-hop concerts, rock bands, Bulgarian folklore assemblies and others.

The organizers of the competition are NCH “23rd September” and municipality Lom. It is held every year in April. It is first held in April 2006. The goals of the competition are to increase children’s motivation to learn more about Bulgaria’s folklore and to have freedom in expressing themselves. All children by the age of 15 are allowed to participate. Folklore assemblies from Serbia and Romania also take part in the competition.

24th May – Bulgarian alphabet celebration – Cyrillic alphabet
24th May is an annual celebration in Bulgaria in honor of the Bulgarian brothers Kiril and Metodii, who created the Cyrillic alphabet. It is used in Russia, Serbia, Macedonia and other countries. We are proud of our ability to give literacy and culture to the world, and Slavic books for everyone to read. We have the confidence of a nation that had embedded its spirituality and culture in Europe.
“Workshop for Easter eggs for all children.”

The Festival is organized before Easter every year at the centre of the city. Participants can be all children of Lom who want to decorate an egg and take part in the competition for the most beautifully coloured Easter egg. In 2011 2011 eggs were painted by 211 children and students. In the Easter workshop, participants are also elderly ladies from retirement homes The eggs are sold on a charity, which funds are used to support the curing of severely ill children. Some of the eggs are used for decoration of the trees in front of the art gallery “Polomie”.
The Earth’s Hour – worldwide initiative – 26th
March
Lom is one of the 30 Bulgarian cities that take part in the worldwide initiative “The Earth’s Hour” since 2008. In the first two years the streetlights were the only ones to be turned off. And in 2010 the town’s municipality organizes Torchlight procession and a concert without audio or any electricity, and a fire show. In 2011 Lom takes part with such concert in the worldwide eco organization “The Earth’s hour 2011’’. For almost two hours the citizens of Lom applauded the beautiful, lightened by candles stage that was taken over by the exciting performances of 12 children’s and teen assemblies from Lom and an assembly from Kozlodui.
Trifon Zarezan – 14th February

On this day the citizen’s of Lom gather at the “Okopa” in the region called “Sadovete” to celebrate the day of the vine grower. The local people honor saint Trifon Zaresan. People do a ritual of water catchment for health and fertility. There’s also a ritual for the election of a king of the vine, which is performed by the dancing assembly “Dunav” from chitalishte “Postoyanstvo”. A symbolic cutting for fertility is also another ritual. And finally there’s a traditional competition for the best wine.
